Latisse® utilized by Dr. Babak Azizzadeh to promote eyelash growth

When it comes to eyelashes, most women have the same complaints. They’re lashes aren’t long enough, full enough or dark enough. To remedy this, they may spend a small fortune on cosmetics and false eyelashes. However, many find these to be cumbersome and unnatural. Ultimately, they are left disappointed wondering if a product that delivers their desired result even exists.

The answer is – yes.

The Federal Drug Administration (FDA) recently approved the first and only prescription solution used to promote eyelash growth. Latisse®, when applied regularly and correctly, can produce longer, thicker and darker lashes in as little as four weeks. Although Latisse® is only available by prescription, patients apply the solution themselves in the comfort of their own homes through a quick, easy and painless process.

What It Is

Latisse® (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution) 0.03% was derrived from Lumigan, another drug produced by the makers of Latisse®. While using Lumergin, patients reported marked eyelash growth. Researchers focused on the active ingredient in Lumergin – bimatoprost ophthalmic solution 0.03% – and began clinical trials and studies to determine its effectiveness for stimulating eyelash growth. The results were impressive
and the FDA approved the solution for public consumption. Latisse® has been available by prescription since early 2009.

How It Works

Latisse® works from the inside out, affecting the lash growth stage in two ways. First, it lengthens the growth stage of the lashes and secondly, it increases the numbers of hairs that are produced during the growth stage. The result of both of these combined is longer, fuller, darker lashes.

How Latisse® Is Applied

Latisse® comes as a clear liquid that’s applied like eyeliner along the upper lash line using a special applicator brush.

What To Expect

Patients will begin to notice results the fourth week of using Latisse® and they continue to improve over time. After a few months of treatment, some patients have such a marked improvement in their lashes that they only use the product every other day instead of nightly, to maintain their lashes. The results of Latisse® last for as long as you continue to use the product. You may have heard rumors that Latisse® can alter the color of your eyes and are leery of trying the product, but there’s really no cause for concern for unwanted effects such as this from using Latisse®.

How To Get Latisse®

Latisse® is available by prescription only. The Center for Advanced Facial Plastic Surgery can prescribe the solution. Although a bottle of Latisse® retails for $120, we can show you a way to make it last 3 months, thereby stretching your budget and your lashes at the same time!
