Don't forget about chemical peelsDespite newer laser technology, chemical peels still provide great skin resurfacing results for many patients. Chemical peels continue to be one of the most common treatments performed in cosmetic facial plastic surgery, and are often very cost effective. While the lure of laser resurfacing technology might sound exciting to patients, many should still consider an “old-fashioned” peel.

Chemical peels have a proven track record of correcting skin issues like wrinkles, sun damage, fine lines, scars, acne and more. Peels work by applying a chemical solution to the face, which exfoliates the skin and stimulates new skin growth.

From superficial peels to deep peels, there are many options available so that the patient can achieve their desired resurfacing results. The superficial peels are a great option for younger patients who only have a few skin issues. After a series of approximately 5 light peels over the course of a couple of months, the patient will experience skin brightening and a more even tone. Patients with more serious skin issues will benefit from deeper peels. These peels are best for patients with deep facial wrinkles, blotchy or damaged skin and should only be done 1-2 times per year. After a deep peel your skin will look refreshed and revitalized.

It is also a good idea to consider having the chemical applied to your neck and chest as well, since these areas experience just as much sun damage, if not more. This will also ensure that your skin tone is even in all 3 areas.
