Cosmetic Procedures in 3-D
Some of you do not know this, but we use the latest imaging technology currently available right here at the CENTER. The cutting edge technology is called VECTRA, and it allows patients to see how their faces will look following a cosmetic procedure, in turn giving them options.
There was a time when figuring out what you would look like after a cosmetic procedure relied on two things: Your doctor’s description, and your imagination. Those days are, thankfully, fading fast. New high-def photography, combined with imaging software, is changing the way patients can see themselves, both now and after their next treatment or surgery.
Cutting Edge Technology
This cutting edge technology is called the VECTRA imaging system, and it was developed by Canfield Imaging Systems. The latest version uses six cameras to photograph THE PATIENT combining these to create a 3-D image of the patient’s face. Next, VECTRA´s proprietary software allows Dr. Azizzadeh to showcase the new you, changing the image of your face, and then rotating it to view from multiple angles.
3-D Model of the Patient
The software uses numerous cameras at the same time to give a true 3-D model of the patient. It is then easy to show the patient what the possible outcomes could be from a reconstructive or cosmetic procedure.
Helping Patients Overcome Their Fear
Many patients are concerned with the final results, and that is why this tool is so invaluable. It helps patients understand the potential outcome, while ensuring that they are on the same page as Dr. Azizzadeh. In many cases, the 3-D picture is worth more than a thousand words.
But the tool is not only great for the patient, but for the surgeon as well. The software allows Dr. Azizzadeh to not only show the changes, but simulate what the patient would look like post-surgery as well.
The unique tool takes all factors into consideration, which in turn allows Dr. Azizzadeh to demonstrate both mild and substantial changes to the face. Dr. Azizzadeh most commonly uses the VECTRA with rhinoplasty patients, to show them how their nose will most likely look after surgery.
Of course, even VECTRA cannot guarantee that what patients see will be exactly what they receive. In the end, just like in the old days, the final outcome will depend on the experience and skill of the surgeon. That is why it is still important to turn to an experienced plastic and reconstructive surgery expert, such as Dr. Azizzadeh.
