Brow Lift Basics
Have you noticed a laxity in your skin or a drooping of your brow as the years go by? Perhapsyour forehead isn’t as youthful looking as it once was? These problems and more are very common signs of aging, but can be frustrating. As we age, our skin loses collagen and begins to sag and wrinkle, so things like forehead wrinkles and droopy eyelids commonly present making us look older than we feel. A brow lift, either surgical or non-surgical, can correct these signs of aging, open up the eyes, and rejuvenate the entire face. Dr. Babak Azizzadeh at the CENTER for Advanced Facial Plastic Surgery in Beverly Hills frequently performs brow lifts on patients looking for a more youthful appearance.
What is a Brow Lift?
A surgical brow lift is a way to surgically lift and tighten the tissue and muscle of the brow area to smooth out wrinkles and tighten lax skin. When performing a brow lift, Dr. Azizzadeh makes tiny incisions in the hairline so that any scars will be hidden. Through those small incisions, he uses an endoscope to manipulate the muscle and tissue. This endoscopic technology allows him to use smaller incisions than were required with a traditional brow lift. This means the surgery is less invasive, which lowers the risk of complications and results in a faster recovery.
After a brow lift, there will be some bruising and swelling, but these side effects should begin to subside within 10 days of the surgery. Once this swelling has gone down, you will begin to see the subtle enhancement in your appearance. By lifting the brows, you will look more alert, younger, and rejuvenated.
Non-Surgical Brow Lift
For those patients who are not quite ready for a surgical brow lift, there is a non-surgical way to smooth and lift the brows—a Botox brow lift. Sometimes referred to as a liquid brow lift, a Botox brow lift involves Botox injections to specific areas of the brows and around the eyes. The Botox will relax the hyperactive muscles underneath the fine lines, creases, and wrinkles, causing the skin to smooth out.
Although a Botox brow lift is a temporary solution, results do typically last between four and six months and the procedure can be performed again once the lines and wrinkles start to reappear. A benefit to having a Botox brow lift is that there is no downtime and patients can resume their normal activities immediately following the procedure.
Another non-surgical option for patients who wish to lift their brow is with skin-tightening Ulthera. This procedure uses ultra-sound laser technology to penetrate deep within the skins surface to stimulate collagen growth, resulting in a natural lift occurring over time.
